An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a valuable form of identification should you need to communicate with foreign authorities - even if you are not planning to drive. Obtain an IDP at any AAA Branch. Bring a valid U.S. Driver license, $20 and two passport-size photos, which are 2 inches x 2 inches, with a white background.

Your IDP is a valid form of identification in 150 countries worldwide and contains your name, photo and driver information. It translates your identification information into 10 languages — so it speaks the language even if you don’t. Most countries highly recommend an International Driving Permit.

- Fill out an application (see link below), and bring it to your nearest AAA Service Center. (International Driving Permit Applications are also available at the service centers, but to save time we suggest you fill out the application in advance.)
- Two original passport pictures. (Available at AAA Service Centers, $5 members, $15 non-members. High quality digital photos are now accepted but must be printed on photo quality paper.)
- A valid U.S. driver’s license
- Pay $20 permit fee and you’re ready to go!

- Two original passport pictures each signed on the back
- $20 permit fee check or money order, payable to AAA Oregon/Idaho.
- A photocopy of both sides of your driver’s license
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope. See USPS.com, Fedex.com or UPS.com for rates. Permits will not be mailed back if return mailing funds are not included.
(For calculating return postage: the weight of one International Driving Permit is 0.5oz. Dimensions are 6″ x 4.25″, less than 1/16″ thick)
International Driving Permits may not be issued more than six (6) months in advance of desired effective date. Permits are valid for one year from date of issue and must be accompanied by a valid U.S. driver’s license at all times. When the permit expires a new permit must be issued, there are no renewals. Drivers must be at least 18 years old to apply.
